It works fine...if you put the horn on tightly!! Telemarketers you've met your match!
I was reluctant to purchase these babies given the bulk of "1 Star" reviews and "it doesn't work" comments, but the price (2 for $5 bucks and $4.75 shipping, 15 May 14) was great and I'd never had trouble with the other "Shoreline" stuff that I'd bought in the past...so I took a chance. The mini-horns were delivered today today and I screwed on the horn attachment fairly tightly, pressed the button, and...nothing! I got the same result was with the second horn and I figured I'd just joined the ranks of the "1 Stars" customers!Thinking that Shoreline Marine surely wouldn't market a complete piece of trash, I removed the horn attachment and found it was a super simple design, with a single pin that is supposed to open the valve in the can when pressed down. Maybe, I thought, the pin wasn't reaching the valve when screwed on to the apparently "tight" position! I replaced the horn attachment, cranked it down very tightly...past the point at which I stopped the first time ... and Voila! the thing blasted away when the button was pressed. The horn might not be of much use on a boat or for making racket at a sporting game (actually a good thing!) because the propellant charge is so small. BUT, the mini-horns are super compact. They are just right to sit next to the phone to blast the next Telemarketing call I get from "Card Services". The Federal "Do NOT Call" list is a joke, and the telemarketing calls are totally out of control so I'm taking the problem into my own hands. Now I am looking forward to blasting the next telemarketer before he/she hangs up on me! Maybe then, after a few of them are using their newly acquired "Obama-Care" privileges to see an audiologist they will remove my number from their solicitation lists! Chuck McB

I bought two of these tiny horns and both worked perfect. Yes
Another review mentioned this & I found it true; A lot of people complain this horn is broken out of the package but that may be false. You have to press quite hard and screw the plastic horn on until you think it is about to strip the threads of the can or break the plastic horn part. I bought two of these tiny horns and both worked perfect.Yes, they are tiny (small enough to fit in a girls skinny jean front pocket). Which is perfect for hiking. And they are only good for about 4 short good blasts. But it is LOUD AS HELL and so brings me a lot of comfort when I worry about crossing paths with a wild animal that may attack me. Although none ever has. If i blew it in any animals face it would definitely hurt its ears and freak it out. I'm purchasing two more as I used one up testing and "playing" with it ;) and the other I tested after screwing the horn on but tested it as well so I know it is only good for about 2 or 3 more "blasts".Just so you know (at the time of writing this review) there is another little air horn out under the brand "Falcon" and there is a 2 pack refill for sale. They do not fit the Shoreline horns. (The blue screw on plastic top.)

Money well spent
I bought this for kayaking, I needed something small and loud. This horn will fit in a shirt pocket and is painfully loud. The only issue I had was attaching the air can to the horn. It felt as though the threads were not matching and took a little more effort to screw on than I was comfortable applying but it does work and doesn't leak air. I would suggest making the attachment at home instead of keeping the unit in it's packaging until needed.

Deer Deterant
My backyard this past winter was overrun with Deer! It's a small fenced-in yard that I am pleased to have (purposely bought a home with a fence for my dog. This past year, after 5 years of living here, we were suddenly overrun with deer! 5-6 at a time. The dog got hurt the second time she ran after them. I try to get them out of the yard but they don't seem to care about me, or the dog, and the deer keep coming back. Prisoners in our own yard I searched high and low for solutions...NONE. City won't let us take them down, even with a bow, since our parcels are so small it's against the law.Well, I cannot have this, so I took the matter into my own hands. When I see a deer, I go out with my airhorn and I blast it once...deer notices, but doesn't act afraid...after a second time, you can see them thinking about running away. At the third one, they skedaddle! And that has significantly cut down how many and how often they are in my yard. The airhorn lasts probably up to about a dozen short blasts.

Loud noise in a small package
This thing is bloody loud, I tell ya, I bet the entire building could hear it when I pressed the button. However it's a lot smaller than the picture gave me an impression it was, it only stands about 5 inches tall. A problem with it is once you screw on the top, it starts to leak slightly, so it's going to lose it's compressed air even if you're not using it. Plus if you press the button too hard, you'll just get a bit of spitting from the canister with it making some noise, but not the noise you'd be looking for.
