Hiplok GOLD: Sold Secure Rated Wearable Chain Bicycle Lock

I've only ridden a bike three times whilst wearing the Hiplock so these observations are therefore sincere but limited. Obviously I have to trust the security rating but that said the Hiplock certainly appears to be a well made, high quality lock and chain. It's a brilliant idea. I like the covering of the chain, which is durable and washable when the time comes, and the easy waist fastening/releasing using the plastic clip. The large key is not double sided so one needs to look at the lock when inserting it, but practice will make that more instinctive. A little practice is also needed to quickly unbuckle, put the chain around the bike and then padlock it - and to reverse the process so that the padlock is not on the same side as the retaining clip, which prevents you securing the chain around your waist! But again that's only practice. Surprisingly, the weight is not really noticeable on rides of about five miles, particularly when wearing a few layers of clothes. I think this is an excellent product and I shall use it all the time for my commuting bike, which I leave with three locks securing it, and when touring, when it can sit in a pannier if need be. However, I find it too heavy for a day ride wearing thinner clothing and certainly 'overkill' when making a coffee stop with other riders, particularly if the bike is within view.

Sold Secure Gold Standard approved - meaning it meets with insurance company requirements.The weight may look a little off-putting at first, especially when compared with Hiplock’s Sold Secure Silver Standard lock, but in reality once you’re wearing it the difference becomes almost negligible. Is it worth the purchase price...absolutely if it saves your pride and joy disappearing down the road without you aboard!Top tip - take a look in the Amazon Warehouse deals and you could get this at a considerable discount. I only paid £54.

The lock seems to be very good but I don’t know why they have this cheap plastic buckle holding it together. I already have a Hiplok light and it’s a far better carrying mechanism with the Velcro strap. I have my doubts that this buckle will hold up long term.Update-When worn on the waist, the buckle becomes loose and the lock starts slipping down over my hips. Not ideal in busy traffic.

Great secure lock.It isn't light in weight but once on its very comfortable and I had to check it was still around my waist, which it was but really comfy and soon forgot about the weight even when riding my road bike on a 70 miler.Easy to use but top quality.It may not be cheap but nor is your bike.

This + mudguards = cycle to work wearing whatever you want, whenever you want, without a backpack making you sweaty! The freedom to whizz around the city afterwards knowing your bike is safe wherever you leave it is peace of mind.The clasp is solid around your waist, but leaves you slightly paranoid it will come undone and the chain will fall into your wheels! I just take the leftover strap and put it through the lock for a double knot.

Very serious bit of kit. I needed a Gold standard lock as my bike insurer insisted on it. Once you've locked your bike up, you can be pretty certain it will still be there when you come back! It is heavy to hold, but you really don't notice the weight once it's around your waist. I'm a pretty big bloke though, so as a percentage of my body weight it isn't that much. It fits around my (too large!) waist with no problem. Takes a little getting used to, and could always do with being just a little bit longer, but on the whole I'm very happy with it.

I brought this as my building's bike shed kept getting broken into and a bikes stolen, including two of mine in the past. Since using this the thieves (who have been back) have not even attempt to break the lock as it really is quick heavy duty. I have also worn it around town and it is quite heavy but that comes with it being so secure.

Reasonable price for gold standard top of the range best lock out if all chain locks to use also not heavy while biking up hill, easy to use, . Brilliant lock down side chain bit smaller than I expected if it had 1 or 2 more links on it it wud be perfect to lock round my full suspension mtb and bike locks. Apart from that defo worth buying it's a MUST HAVE!!

Ich war lange auf der Suche nach einem geeigneten Fahrradschloss, welches aus mindestens einer gehärteten 10mm starken Kette besteht und einen guten Schließmechanisums hat. Es gibt u.a. Ketten mit diesen Spezifikationen von ABUS oder Kryptonite, allerdings kann man solche Ketten ohne Rucksack nur schwer transportieren.Das Hiplok Schloss wiegt knapp 2,5 KG, was eigentlich zu schwer ist, um eine Kette für eine längere Strecke von 15-20KM zu transportieren. ABER: Sobald man das Schloss um die Hüfte schnallt, merkt man gar nichts vom Gewicht. Während der Fahrt stört das Schloss nicht und man kann weiterhin einen Rucksack tragen.Man kann zwischen 3 verschiedenen Farben wählen, wobei ich ganz klar die reflektierende Variante bevorzugen würde. Im Dunkeln reflektiert die gesamte Ummantelung und man wird rechtzeitig von Autofahrern gesehen. Wie robust die reflektierende Schicht ist, kann ich bisher noch nicht sagen, werde ich aber in ein paar Monaten hinzufügen.Ich bin absolut zufrieden mit dem Schloss und kann es jedem empfehlen, der sein teures Rad absichern will und davon genervt ist, ständig die schwere Kette im Rucksack zu transportieren ;). Endlich kann man ohne Rucksack in die Stadt fahren und trotzdem das Rad sicher abschließen. Es gibt allerdings eine etwas nervige Sache. Wenn man das Schloss geöffnet hat, kann man den Schlüssel nicht rausziehen, d.h. der Schlüssel muss immer stecken, was in manchen Situationen nervig ist und teilweise einschränkt.Wie sicher das Schloss letztendlich ist, kann ich nicht beurteilen, dazu müsste ich es versuchen zu knacken ;). Aber grundsätzlich scheint es ziemlich robust zu sein, die Kette ist aus gehärtetem Stahl und 10mm dick, das Schloss bzw. der Stahlbügel 12mm dick. Damit sollte man auf jeden fall vor Bolzenschneidern jeglicher Art geschützt sein. Gegen eine mobile akkubetriebene Flex hat man wahrscheinlich nur ein paar Sekunden bzw. Minuten Schutz.... Das ist zumindest ein Erfahrungswert aus Tests von Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit und ABUS 1060 XPlus, die in einem Zeitraum von 30 - 60 Sekunden nachgeben.

Ich Persönlich bin kein Fan von Falltschlösser da diese relativ einfach, leise und unbemerkt mit einem Nusssprenger aufknacksn lassen (Mal auf YouTube gucken).Daher wollte ich mir ein Kettenschloss zulegen.. diese haben aber oft an dem Fahrrad den Nachteil daß sie nur klappern und schlecht unterzubringen sind.Das hiplok hat dieses Problem ziemlich gut gelöst und ist zudem wenn man es an der Hüfte trägt fast kaum spürbar.-nachteil ist dabei (nicht zu ernst nehmen) das ich es schon ein paar Mal mit in die Wohnung genommen habe statt es in Keller zu lassen da ich es vergessen hatte... Wie gesagt kaum spürbar und das meine ich ernst.Wie stabil das ganze ist kann man auf YouTube bei vitbikes sehen. Die haben versucht das Schloss zu knacken was nicht geklappt hatte. Ich kann das schloss ohne Probleme empfehlen.

Insgesamt würde ich satte 5 Punkte vergeben (mit dem kleinen Abstrich, daß vielleicht ein Kettenglied mehr das Anschließen eines Rades an feste Gegenstände erleichtern würde), aber daß das Schloß nach ca. zehnmaligem Auf- und Zuschließen anfängt, widerspenstig zu haken, paßt nicht zum Preis. Ich schaue mir das an, ob es schlimmer wird, wenn ja, geht's retour.

die Vorteile sind bekannt :-tragbar als Gürtel(=bequeme Gewichtsverteilung) was die anderen Hersteller nicht offerieren;-massiver Reflector + beachlichen Dimensionen der Kette u. Schlossesn = erhöhte Sicherheit(im Verkehr + zur Sicherung - das Tragen(Gewicht) das Hiplocks an der Hüfre(scheint) kaum problematisch zu sein ,selbst bei meinen Dimensionen von 54kg.- ja und zur "self-defence" kann das Teil ebenso verwedet werden....kann blitzschnell (dank der Konstrucktion = Schloss ist beim Tragen an der Hüfte entriegelt... der Bügel ist nicht mit dem Kettengled verbunden....!) von der Hüfte entnommen werdenals neutal bis leicht negativ könnte man anmercken:-das Gewicht der Kette(2,4kg),die beim abschliessen, auf den Speichen des Rages liegt (bei einer Doppelsicherung: des Rahmens + eines der Räder) ... mit Potential ,derren Verformung(Verbiegung)...- die Verschmutzung der reflektierenden Hülle(beim Kontact mit der Kette)und folglich der Bekleidung (mit etwas Fantasie,kann man dem aber,entgegenwircken)- bei meinem Hüftumfang (klein),kann ich das Teil "gerade so" noch anbringen....denke dies wird die wenigsten betreffenin der Praxis habe ich das Hiplok Gold noch nicht ausgetestet....doch zunächst dominieren fürmich die Vorteile....schauen wir mal....

Ist das ein schweres Teil!! Ich transportiere es, entgegen der Produkt-Idee, allerdings in einer Packtasche, denn ich möchte mir kein regennasses Schloss um die Hüfte binden. Ich empfinde es aber auch im trockenen Zustand als unbequem. Vielleicht bin ich zu schlank, weshalb es mich überall zwickt und drückt?! Das von Anderen angesprochene Problem des verhakens kann auch ich bestätigen. Es ist wirklich ätzend, wenn man, gefühlt, minutenlang an dem Schloss herumfummeln muss. Mittlerweile versuche ich es nach kürzester Zeit schon mit drauf-ein-schlagen. Ich weiß nicht, ob das am Schloss oder am Bügel oder am Kunststoff liegt. Ist auf jeden Fall wirklich lästig! Ob es knackbar ist oder nicht .. ich möchte es nicht herausfinden.Update: Januar 2019: da am Vorhängeschloss hier und da Flugrost auftrat, habe ich es mit Sprühol bearbeitet. Und siehe da: es lässt sich nun auch viel leichter schließen!!! Offenbar beginnt es innen nach einiger Zeit zu rosten (natürlich nicht wirklich) und hakt deshalb. Also, alles bestens!! 5 Sterne.
