This coin was minted between 1920 and 1932. It was first minted during the 大正 Taisho Empire, which lasted until the death of the Emperor Taisho in 1926 and was succeeded by the 昭和 Showa Empire. The front of this coin features the value 錢 十 (10 Sen) below the Imperial Seal of Japan, which is represented solely by the stylized image of a chrysanthemum. On the back the state title and date are written from right to left as: 本日大(Great Japan); the date of minting is represented as 年 followed by the number of years the emperor had been in power as of that year (Japanese characters are numbers); and--up to 1926--ending with 大正 (Taisho empire) -- or after 1926 -- 昭和 (Showa Empire).
