Why need you buy it? Bathroom lights can be painfully bright in the middle of the night and can disturb you or your partner's sleep or other family members. Besides Unfortunately, most night lights waste electricity all night long, occupy valuable electrical sockets, and don't put light where you need it. The LavNav is a better solution. It turns on when you approach in the dark, and turns off after you leave, shining gentle yet sufficient light where you need it, when you need it. Better yet, the LavNav uses RED or GREEN light to cleverly show the position of the seat. It's smart, energy efficient lighting that makes the bathroom safe and easy to use at night.

Review updated to 5 Stars
Only lasted 6 weeks and then stopped. They only have a 30 day return policy. It worked fine while it worked but what good is it if it only lasted 6 weeks.Update: Seller reached out and replaced the unit fee of charge. The new one is working just fine. Top Marks to a responsible seller that stands behind their product!!!!

If working properly would be a great buy!
I bought this for our main bathroom. We have enough guests, both men and women that I thought it was a good idea to have some sort of nightlight. Our main bath has a 'water closet' which has no electrical outlets in it. I thought this item made the most sense given that particular problem. When I first opened the package, I took off the back cover, put in the batteries and everything appeared to work correctly. The green light came on, I placed my hand above the unit and the light changed red. But, every time I tried to put the back cover back on the unit, the light would automatically turn red. If I set it down on its back without the cover, it would turn from green to red. No matter what I did, if something was covering the opening to the back, the light would turn red. After some time tinkering with the item, I realized the two sensors at the top of the unit were still down too far into the casing so it was detecting anything covering the back as an obstruction (like it would register the toilet seat). So I took a toothpick and gently applied pressure to the bottom of the sensors to get them to seat higher into their housing causing less of the sensor to be exposed inside the case. VoilĂ , Eureka! It was fixed. I could put the back cover on the unit and the light stayed green until I placed my had above bear the sensors. So, my next step was to take it back to our darkened bathroom and check the range of the motion sensor. I set the item um against the toilet lid in a position like if I was to mount it on the toilet seat. I walked away, I walked back. Nothing. I waved my hands. Nothing. Jumped up and down. Nothing. Nothing I could do would make the light come on. I took the batteries out and put them back in. The green light came on (and boy was it bright!!), I placed my hand above the unit and the light changed to red (much gentler on the eyes, but still makes everything visible). So, I waited outside the area and the light turned off. Walked in to where it would be able to pick up my movement and again nothing. Well, not much tinkering can make that work. So, I gave up.Honestly, if it would have worked correctly it would have been a nice little nightlight. Though I would have readjusted the sensors to only get the red light. The green light is just too harsh on the eyes, especially if you wake in the night to use the bathroom. Red lights are better for your eyes and don't cause a wake up effect when viewed in the middle of the night. The red light as also still bright enough to tell anyone who intended to use the toilet if the seat was up or down. But, if you can't get the thing to turn on, then it makes no sense to keep....

Good idea, but find a better version of this product
The concept is great, but the quality is poor. It does sense that its been moved,, sometimes it senses light. As for the seat up or down feature, the green light never comes on. I have tried it in several positions. Also, the red light when its on just shines on the seat if its up. If your a guy and you have the seat up, the light doesn't have an angle that really allows you to see the bowl at all.

I'm buying more!
I feel weird reviewing something for a TOILET but I must say this thing is pretty cool. My 5 year old and myself were so excited for it to turn night time, the first day we got this!! I stumbled across this little contraption on accident. I primarily bought this for my 5 year old, so he doesn't have to turn on the lights if he gets up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. Also, he has a REAL problem with putting the seat UP when he's using the lavatory. (I guess he's trying to please all those women out there that complain guys never put the seat down. He just leaves it down. But then he pees all over the seat) . :) Whoops. So now he knows that if the seat is red, he's good to go! In any matter, I want to buy one for each of our bathrooms, b/c this thing is great. It's bright enough to not have to turn on the bathroom lights and then it tells you by the light color if it's ready for a bottom or ready for a standing person. :)

Thought it would be fun but turns out to be an aggravation
A piece of cheap christmas trash. Almost impossible to position for it to work properly. Which it does not anyway. The light it emits does help. If you were a nat. Don't bother. Thought it would be fun but turns out to be an aggravation.

Keep your night vision during those middle of the night nature calls
I'm digging not having to turn the overhead lights in the bathroom on when I wander in at 3am after being awoken by my bladder screaming at me for drinking that full glass of iced tea right before bed. Really goes a long way to keep me from being fully dragged into the world of the awake.I'm knocking a star off because the "seat down turn green" function seems to be hit or miss. If you're looking at this for that purpose I'm not sure I'd reccomend it, but if you're looking for a nice dim light to help you aim and keep your girl off your back about the occasional late night spray, then this does the trick nicely.

Great Concept but Not Perfected Yet
The green LED stopped working after about two weeks while the red still works. Changed batteries, no help. It was installed properly as it did work correctly for awhile. The unit senses motion and lights up when supposed to but since the green LED failed I have to keep the seat up at night which is okay because the wifey has the master bathroom and I take the hike across the hall. Unit still helps and I don't have to blind myself at night, but it sucks when you buy something that doesn't work properly. I don't expect it to last very long. Also, manufacturer should try to reduce the overall size to make it a little less obtrusive. People may think it's a perverted camera if you think about it, but it is a clever night light non the less.

Shows you the way to the pool, lol
Works like it is advertised. BUT, the motion detection seems very sensitive. Used in master bedroom's bathroom. I can see the toilet from my bed, and it's about 15 feet away. Every time I move throughout the night, it turns on. When it is using the red led, which indicates toilet seat lid is in the up position, it is not bothersome or bright. But when the green leds come on, they are bright, enough to not only light the bathroom, but also a portion of my bedroom. I just placed a piece of electrical tape over the top sensor, and only the red led's come on when activated. Does what I need it to do, so I am pleased.
